GIC Connect Terms of Use

           

  1. Welcome to GIC Connect. The GIC Connect site (“the Site”) and network (collectively “the Service”) is operated and maintained by the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation Pte Ltd (“GIC”, “we” or “us”) and its appointed vendor. 
  1. By accessing GIC Connect, you signify that you have read, understood and agreed to be bound by these Terms of Use (“Terms of Use”). GIC  reserves the right, at our sole discretion, to change, modify, add, or delete portions of these Terms of Use at any time without further notice. Your continued use of GIC Connect after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms of Use.
  1. You agree and continue to agree to use the Service in a manner consistent with all applicable laws and regulations and in accordance with any guidelines set out in the Service.

Membership and Account Security


  1. Membership in GIC Connect is non-transferable. In consideration of your use of GIC Connect, you agree to (a) provide accurate, current and complete information about you as may be prompted by any registration forms on the Site (“Registration Data”); (b) maintain the security of your password and identification; and (c) be fully responsible for all use of your GIC Connect account and for any actions that take place using your account.
  1. Please notify us immediately if you suspect that there has been unauthorised use of your account.

Proprietary Rights in Site Content


GIC and Non User Generated Content


  1. Except as otherwise expressly stated herein, the copyright and all other intellectual property in the contents of the Service which are posted by GIC (including, but not limited to, all design, text, images or links) are the property of GIC, its affiliates, and/or the respective third party proprietors identified in the Service. As such, they may not be appropriated or modified in any manner, or reproduced, transmitted, published, broadcast, stored, adapted, distributed, displayed, licensed, altered, hyperlinked or otherwise used in whole or in part in any manner without the prior written consent of GIC, its affiliates, or such third party proprietors. Save and except with GIC's prior written consent, you may not insert a hyperlink to the Site or any part thereof on any other web site, or "mirror" or frame the Site, any part thereof, or any information or materials contained in the Site on any other server, web site or webpage.
  1. All trademarks, service marks, design marks and logos used in the Service are the property of GIC, its affiliates, and/or the respective third party proprietors identified in the Service. No licence or right is granted and your access to the Site should not be construed as granting, by implication, estoppel or otherwise, any licence or right to use any trade marks, service marks or logos appearing on the Site without the prior written consent of GIC, its affiliates or the respective third party proprietors as the case may be. Save and except with prior written consent from the proprietor, no such trade mark, service mark, design mark or logo may be used as a hyperlink or to mark any hyperlink to any GIC site or any other site.
  1. All intellectual property rights in User Content (as defined below) belong to the user who has generated said content. Except for your own User Content, you may not upload or republish any user generated content unless the user concerned has expressed his or her consent in the content, or you have obtained the prior written consent of said user.
  1. You understand and agree that all User Content represents the views of the user who has generated said content alone and does not represent the views of GIC.
User Conduct

  1. You understand and agree that the Service is available for your personal, non-commercial use only and you will not use the Service to collect email addresses or other contact information of other users for the purpose of sending unsolicited communications.
  1. You are solely responsible for the content that you upload, publish or display (hereinafter, “post”) on the Site, or transmit to or share with other users (collectively the “User Content”). You may not post, transmit, or share User Content on the Site that you do not have permission to post. You represent, warrant and agree that no materials of any kind submitted through your account or otherwise posted by you on or through the Site will violate or infringe upon the rights of any third party. In posting such material, you hereby grant GIC a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual licence to reproduce and distribute any User Content. Please notify us if you wish to edit or remove any postings. You understand and acknowledge that, even after editing or removal, copies of User Content may remain viewable in cached and archived pages or if other users have copied or stored your User Content.
  1. In addition, you agree that you will not post any material which may expose GIC to any harm or liability of any type, including but not limited to material which falls within the following categories:
  1. You understand and agree that GIC may review the Service and may delete or remove (without notice) any contents of the Site or User Content in its sole discretion.

E-mail Service


  1. A free webmail account is provided to all members  with the address  “gicalum.com.sg”. This email address will be published in the Member Directory (see below) and may be published on GIC’s internal network.

     

  1. You acknowledge that only you are authorised to use your mailbox. You agree not to resell your webmail account and to be fully liable for the use of your webmail account, including any unauthorised use of your webmail account by a third party. You further agree to notify GIC immediately if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your mailbox.

     

  1. GIC does not monitor any email communications and you are solely responsible for the content of your emails and for ensuring that email communications comply with all applicable laws.  All members are expected to use their discretion when contacting other alumni, and emails sent should not promote personal business or special interests (fundraising, political etc).  In addition, you are not permitted to transmit messages that (a) infringe on any third part’s intellectual property or proprietary rights, or rights of publicity or privacy ; (b) violate any law, statute, ordinace or regulation; (c) are defamatory, libelous, threatening, harassing, abusive, or obscene; or (e) contain links to any sites that include any of that kind of content.

     

  1. Spamming from or to the GIC alum webmail account is prohibited. GIC will determine in our sole discretion whether any of the messages you send are spam.  For your information, spamming generally includes sending any form of email that can be interpreted as junk email or bulk email that the recipient has not specifically requested from you.
  1. You are reminded that communications on the Internet, by email or any other electronic communications systems are not secure and can give rise to legal action (e.g. claims of defamation, discrimination, harassment, breach of confidentiality) against the user concerned personally and that misuse of the Internet can in certain circumstances constitute a criminal offence. GIC assumes no responsibility for any such claims.
  1. GIC reserves the right to terminate the webmail service at its discretion. If your webmail account is terminated, all emails, including any attachments will automatically be deleted.

Email Forwarding

 

  1. All emails sent by GIC to your “gicalum.com.sg”  email address will automatically be forwarded to your personal email address provided at registration.  You may choose to unsubscribe from the forwarding service.
  1. This forwarding service does not apply to emails that are not sent by GIC, e.g. emails you receive from another “gicalum.com.sg” email address.
Members Directory

  1. The Site contains a Members Directory to which all members of GIC Connect will have access. The information in the directory is confidential and for the use of GIC and members of GIC Connect only. This information should not be communicated to any third party without written consent from the member concerned.
Third Party Websites and Content

  1. The Site may contain, (or you may be sent through the Site or the Service) links to other web sites (“Third Party Sites”) as well as articles, photographs, text, graphics, pictures, designs, music, sound, video, information, applications, software and other content or items belonging to or originating from third parties (the “Third Party Applications, Software or Content”). Such Third Party Sites and Third Party Applications, Software or Content are not investigated, monitored or checked for accuracy, appropriateness, or completeness by us, and GIC is not responsible for any Third Party Sites accessed through the Site or any Third Party Applications, Software or Content posted on, available through or installed from the Site, including the content, accuracy, offensiveness, opinions, reliability, privacy practices or other policies of or contained in the Third Party Sites or the Third Party Applications, Software or Content.
  1. Inclusion of, linking to or permitting the use or installation of any Third Party Site or any Third Party Applications, Software or Content does not imply approval or endorsement thereof by us. If you decide to leave the Site and access the Third Party Sites or to use or install any Third Party Applications, Software or Content, you do so at your own risk and you should be aware that our terms and policies no longer govern. You should review the applicable terms and policies, including privacy and data gathering practices, of any site to which you navigate from the Site or relating to any applications you use or install from the site.
Confidentiality

  1. The contents of the Service are confidential to the members of GIC Connect. You agree not to republish or share any of the contents of the Service without obtaining either the prior consent of the relevant member of GIC Connect which should be either published in the relevant content or specifically expressed in writing, or the prior written consent of GIC, as applicable.
Indemnification

  1. You agree to indemnify and hold GIC harmless against any loss or damage suffered as a result of your breach of the Terms of Use or arising from your User Content.
No Representation or Warranties

  1. While every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided by GIC on the Site is up to date and accurate, GIC makes no representation or warranty of any kind either express or implied as to the completeness, correctness, accuracy, suitability, reliability or otherwise of the Site or its contents or the results of its use for any purpose, all of which is provided “as is” and “as available”.
  1. GIC is not responsible or liable in any manner for the conduct, whether online or offline, of any user of the Service, or for any User Content or Third Party Applications, Software or Content posted on the Site or in connection with the Service, whether posted or caused by users of the Site, by third parties or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilised in the Site or the Service. Further, we do not warrant that the Service or the servers that make it available are free of any virus or other harmful elements.
  1. The Service may be temporarily unavailable from time to time for maintenance or other reasons. GIC assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to, or alteration of user communications. GIC is not responsible for any technical malfunction or other problems of any telephone network or service, computer systems, servers or providers, computer or mobile phone equipment, software or failure of email on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet and/or the Site, including injury or damage to your or to any other person's computer or other hardware or software related to or resulting from using or downloading materials in connection with the Service. Under no circumstances will GIC be responsible for any loss or damage, including any loss or damage to any User Content or personal injury or death, resulting from anyone's use of the Site or the Service, any User Content or Third-Party Applications, Software or Content posted on or through the Site or the Service or transmitted to you, or any interactions between users of the Site, whether online or offline.
  1. GIC disclaims all warranties and obligations relating to the Service, including but not limited to all implied warranties and obligations of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement.
Limitation of Liability

  1. The information contained herein in the Service shall be accessed and used at your own risk and to the fullest extent permissible and subject and pursuant to all applicable laws and regulations. GIC shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, consequential or other damages whatsoever, (including but not limited to liability for loss of use, data or profits), including but not limited to contract, negligence or other tortious actions, arising out of or in connection with the Service, even if GIC has been advised of the possibility of such damages or losses that were, are being or will be incurred.
  1. GIC will not be responsible for any unauthorised circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained in the Service.
Termination of Service

  1. If your membership of GIC Connect is terminated for any reason, your right to use the Service shall also be automatically terminated.
  1. GIC may terminate your account or access rights to this Service at any time, without notice, for conduct that GIC believes violates the Terms of Use or other guidelines that GIC has posted on the Service, or is harmful to other users of the Service, GIC’s business, or to other information providers.
Governing Law and Jurisdiction

  1. These Terms of Use and any further guidelines contained in the Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Singapore, and you agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore Courts.
